Who is this program for?
This program is for young people aged 12 – 18 who identify as neurodivergent and have a connection to the City of Greater Dandenong (e.g. live, study or work). Because this program is focused on storytelling, it is suitable for young people who are able to participate independently for a two-hour session, once per week. If you are not sure whether the program is suitable for you, please contact us on 8571 1620 or youthservices@cgd.vic.gov.au.
What kind of activities will we do?
Each session, we will learn new theatre games and activities designed to build confidence and develop core performance skills. We will also learn about devised theatre – a way of creating stories for theatre without needing to write down a script. Participants will learn about improvisation, movement, dialogue and more.
Will I have to perform onstage?
No, this program does not involve live performance. We will create short theatre pieces, which will be filmed and then screened at a celebration night.
Do I need previous theatre experience?
No, no prior experience is needed.
What supports will there be for accessibility needs?
This program is designed for young people who are able to participate independently for around two hours without a support worker/carer. Support will be provided for access needs as required, including a quiet space, sensory items, simple English instructions, social stories etc. Please contact us on 8571 1620 or youthservices@cgd.vic.gov.au to discuss your needs.
